Norwegian Prima

Setting Sail With Martin Travel on Norwegian Prima

Kelly Fitzgerald, Operations Manager of Martin Travel, recently cruised on the Norwegian Prima, the newest ship from Norwegian Cruise Line launched in 2022.

Norwegian Prima offers guests exciting itineraries, the highest staffing levels and space ratio of any new cruise ship in the contemporary or premium cruise category, and Brand-first experiences with Ocean Boulevard, Indulge Food Hall, The Concourse, Infinity Beach, Oceanwalk and the Penrose Atrium. Norwegian Prima also features multiple first-at-sea innovations including a three-story transformational theater-nightclub, the Prima Theater & Club; its three-level racetrack with the Prima Speedway; the fastest slides at sea, and much more.

What’s it like to cruise on the Prima? We asked Kelly to share her experience.

How would you describe the Prima?

I loved the atmosphere on board. The ship has a trendy mid-century feel that is not as flashy and bright as on the mega ships. The design features soft colors, and there are plenty of spaces to relax all over the ship.

The Prima was at capacity, but it never felt crowded. I never had to wait at the buffet or restaurant. It wasn’t hard to find a deck chair at the pool, either.

What was dining like on Prima?

Prima had exceptional food. I especially liked Indulge Food Hall. It has eight different stations with menus from all over the world. You pick a seat and place your order on an iPad. Then, food just starts showing up at your table. The portions are small, so you can try many items.

I also like Anytime Dining on Norwegian. You can make reservations or just show up and wait for a table. It’s all up to you.

What did you like about the onboard activities?

The Galaxy Pavilion is filled with virtual-reality activities. We could have stayed there all day. It’s open to everyone, but your teens will love it.

For families, there’s a nine-hole miniature golf course, darts lounges and a three-level go-kart racetrack. There are multiple infinity pools and hot tubs, and the waterslides are amazing. The ship even has a big “toilet bowl” waterslide. The Vibe Beach Club is an adults-only sun deck if you want quiet time.

What else did you enjoy on your cruise?

One of my favorite things about Prima was the entertainment. Don’t miss The Price Is Right LIVE! show. Be sure to reserve your seats and tickets as soon as you’re on board, as it books up quickly.

A hidden gem is the house cover band at Syd Norman’s Pour House. They play hits from the ’70s and ’80s. We went to see them the first night and didn’t miss a performance after that.

What is unique about cruising with Norwegian Cruise Line?

Norwegian has taken a completely different approach from other cruise lines. Its Free at Sea offers include free Wi-Fi, free unlimited open bar and more. I really appreciated that—and I can tell you that the drinks were spectacular.

What type of traveler is a good fit for this cruise?

The Norwegian Prima is a great fit for families and a perfect cruise for grandparents who like to take their kids and grandkids along. It’s a good fit for everyone, really. We went as two adults and had a great time.
