Los Cabos

The Charms of Los Cabos, Mexico

Sunseekers have long been enthralled with Los Cabos, Mexico, which is known for its pleasant weather, upscale resorts and outdoor activities. Located on the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, Los Cabos comprises two towns: Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, which are connected by the Tourist Corridor, a 20-mile swath of beaches, resorts and golf courses. The main attraction is the region’s stunning coastline, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez.

Martin Travel Operations Manager Kelly Fitzgerald talks about her favorite aspects of this resort region.

Tell us about your recent trip to Los Cabos.

I had a wonderful trip. The people were nice, the food was amazing, and I found the landscape quite beautiful. I hadn’t realized that Los Cabos is a rocky desert with mountains on one side and a gorgeous beach and sea on the other. I went in December and the weather was excellent—not too hot and not too cold.

I traveled with Pleasant Holidays, our top tour supplier. They took care of everything, from booking the hotel to arranging tours and transfers. It was a seamless experience from my home airport to the destination. A representative from Pleasant Holidays met us at the airport in Mexico, and we had a local guide with us throughout the trip.

Where did you stay?

I stayed at the all-inclusive Marquis Los Cabos. It has an excellent location in the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo and was the perfect size for easy access to everything on property. The service was exceptional, and they had a lot of entertainment, from water games to dance lessons to poolside trivia. The resort has many dining options and types of guest rooms, including casitas, which have their own rooftop plunge pools.

For me, one of the best parts of the resort was all the pools. They had many to choose from; some were very quiet, and I could read and enjoy the scenery. Though the property is beachfront, swimming in the ocean is not recommended because the surf is too rough. The resort, however, does have a small cove protected from heavy surf where you can swim. There are lounge chairs and excellent bar service by the pool or on the beach. The resort is adults-only, and I saw couples and friend groups of all ages.

What experience stands out most?

One highlight was seeing the iconic El Arco, the region’s famous rock arch formation, on a catamaran sailing arranged by Pleasant Holidays. From there, we sailed to a quiet cove for snorkeling. On the way back, we encountered several humpback whales. We were so close that I could see the water spouting from their blowholes!

Another spectacular experience was dining at the beautiful Ritz-Carlton Zadún on an outdoor deck overlooking the sea. The hotel sources everything locally, and the food was incredible.

What should every traveler know about this destination?

December is a great time to visit Los Cabos. It’s the low season, offering more space and a pleasant climate. Not all properties are all-inclusive, but that shouldn't deter visitors, as there are convenient options for meals and shopping in town, with many hotels providing shuttles.

Who would this kind of trip appeal to most?

Los Cabos caters to a range of travelers. Whether you seek relaxation by the pool, adventure through water activities or cultural exploration in the art district, Los Cabos has something for almost everyone. It's a perfect destination for those who appreciate a mix of beach, adventure and cultural experiences.
